The term “Woza Dali” comes from urban hair stylists/ braiders from the townships of South Africa. The stylists shout Woza Dali when they approach potential clients and ask them come have a quick squeeze at their hair style look book. “Woza Dali” directly translates as “Come Darling".
My series Woza Dali entails illustrations which form a look book and short animation montages. In these series I celebrate African people’s hair, showing various hairstyles we can do on our hair.
Volume 2 "Boph' iphondo" Directly translated, tie your hair. In slang, simply means relax or chill. In this series I bring in hair fiber for protective hair styles. From Big bantu knots, jumbo braids, piggy tails just a few sets of amaphodo. This is a look book on different ways to ukuboph' iphondo. Enjoy the visuals.
